About Us
We are the Leamington & Warwick British Sub-Aqua Club. Founded in 1957 and based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, our club is run by its members for its members, to provide an environment where people can meet to go scuba diving.
We are also Branch No. 217 of the British Sub-Aqua Club, a nationwide scuba diving organisation and the governing body for the sport in the UK.
Scuba Diving
If you have never dived before, we can offer try-dives in our local swimming pool with one of our BSAC qualified instructors. We also offer training to BSAC diving qualifications that are recognised around the world, starting with the entry-level course of Ocean Diver.
If you have a diving qualification from another organisation, that's usually not a problem: BSAC recognise many other qualifications as similar to theirs, so you can still join the branch and dive with us. If you want to further your training, you can convert over to the BSAC scheme with ease!
Throughout the spring, summer and autumn months we also organise regular days at Stoney Cove or Dosthill for those who are ready to move on to training in open water. It’s planned in advance so that we can get the most instructors available for your training. There are also lots of budding Dive Leaders that would be happy to take newly qualified divers in to gain experience.
Snorkelling....
We also offer BSAC snorkelling qualifications starting with BSAC Basic Snorkel Diver. Aimed at children and adults alike, by learning to snorkel you can enjoy exploring the fascinating underwater environment with confidence.
Dive Trips....
The club’s members arrange regular dive trips throughout the year. Many are based around the UK and have included Plymouth, Farne Islands, Sound of Mull, Ireland, and the Knoydart in Scotland. We have also organised trips to the Red Sea, Florida and Gibraltar. The trips may involve the use of a charter boat, or our two rigid-hull inflatable boats (RIB).
Social Events....
The club isn’t all about diving though: we like to have some non-diving fun too such as our annual dinner and dance, quiz evenings, barbeques, or nights on the town.
When Do We Meet....?
The club primarily meets on Wednesday evenings. From 8:30 to 9:30 pm we hire the swimming pool at the Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre. We start the diver training here, and many of our members go for a gentle swim or for the more competitive and energetic experience join the Octopush(underwater hockey) group who have a "friendly match" each week in the other half of the pool. For the Octopush you will need to bring (or hire from our boat house) mask, snorkel and fins.
Diving and snorkelling equipment can be hired from our boathouse between 7:30 and 8:00 pm
For the social side of the club, we meet in St. Patrick's Irish Club every Wednesday fro 9.30pm until at least 11pm.
We usually hold our training lectures at the Irish Club or Newbold Cymon Swimming pool on Monday or Wednesday evenings, and social events on Friday or Saturday evenings.
Intrested....?
Then read on! There's plenty of information on this site about what we do and have to offer.
